Yay!!!!! You guessed right? It’s that time of the year again when we at WC (WunmmiesCouture) celebrate our beautiful trainees. It’s the third season of the WC Trainee Fashion Show, you can view details of previous seasons from the blog.
The last training session was…mind-boggling, for me and the participants. The participants comprised of both the weekday and weekend students. It was an emotional period when the students graduated as we had bonded beyond the classroom. It was a memorable day, filled with so much grandeur and spectacle. Guests, parents, friends and prospective clients graced the occasion. The event was put together by Busola Alawode, CEO of EventsbyOA. Mr. Adetunji Adebiyi of CEO Rhobes Couture was the MC. The judges for the event were MR. Kayode Sodade (CEO DM wardrobe), and Miss Yemi Hassan (CEO Raf_Hassan and also one of the very first trainees at WC).
I was filled with so much pride and emotion to see the students who had little or no knowledge about tailoring having grown beyond talk of tailoring to actually performing the act, and beautifully well if I must stay. But, since I cannot be a judge in my own court, I’d let you see the outfits they made, so that you can decide for yourselves too!
The first Trainee to showcase was:”Mummy Princess”(as she is fondly called by us @WC). Mummy Princess’ collection theme is “Motherhood and Style”, she was motivated by her love for playing with bright colours and the fact that the African woman can depict her moods with her choice of colour.
The second trainee to showcase was: “Sayeeda”, whose collection theme is “Sunrise in the Desert,” the extremities of the desert were her inspiration. According to her, “it’s burning hot during the day and almost freezing cold at night. The sand dunes are picturesque and solid yet the sand could be lifted away by the wind so easily”. In order to ensure that she could satisfy the desire of her clients who would want to enjoy the cool breeze at night or who might themselves in a vicious environment, she tried to incorporate this in her collection with the mix of hard and soft fabrics or colour blocking or picturesque outfits.
The third trainee to showcase was:”Sylvia”, the name of her collection is “Black to White”. Black and white are her favorite colours so she decided to play around with them while presenting extremely simple and classy wears.
The fourth trainee to showcase was: “Azeezat”, whose collection theme is “Timeless Modesty” her motivation was borne out of pieces that never go out of vogue( Go-to pieces that can be worn no matter the season of the year) rocked fabulously in the modest/descent of ways, without revealing the skin.
The fifth trainee to showcase was: “Hauwa” whose collection name is ”Simplicity”, so as to appreciate our beautiful African materials, she chose to mix African Ankara with other materials; chiffon, lace, duchess. Hear her “let’s say I was playing with different materials as well as the African material”.
The sixth trainee to showcase was: “Judith” whose collection name is “SunFlower”, her love for beautiful and bright coloured fabrics inspired her collection. According to her,”I love beautiful and bright coloured fabrics, they signify light , happy mood, brightness. I’m a happy person and my smile makes me noticeable. This made me go for a flowered patterned fabric that has a touch of yellow which would be noticeable to all and sundry.
The seventh trainee to showcase was:”Olaitan” whose collection name is: “Banking”. She said her aim is to showcase the significance of fashion in the banking industry, varieties of style and the conscious act of bankers towards fashion.
While guests and friends were having so much fun as they fed their eyes with the different outfits ranging from clothes to the work place, church and funky casuals; it was drilling for our judges who had a tough time deciding who the winner was as the ladies tried to outdo one another. But, as always a winner must always emerge….can you guess who from the pictures you see? Sayeeda! Her designs were creative, ingenuous and her finishing was almost flawless. The brilliant young lady showed that the female Muslim can be adorned with so much beauty while still being modest and stylish. Do you agree with the judges? Yes or no?
